In the remnants of hurricane Ike, Brian Stern battled his way through “the hardest race he has ever done.” He done it well, though, taking 4th overall and 1st place in the Elite Master’s division of this notoriously well-contested end of season race. Here’s a little report on his race.
This was the hardest race I have ever done. The Air Temp was 90 and humid with winds blew at 20 mph with 30+ gusts as the remains of IKE made its way through the area. I think I saw the wicked witch of the West fly over a corn field on the bike leg. Wind screamed from three different directions and increased as we started the run. I drank five bottles on the bike and was dehydrated by the run. I ran sideways leaning into the wind crossing the Dam and felt like I was getting pushed backwards.
