Weekend Wrap-up

SSSMST was out and about this past weekend racing and learning to swim faster!

Brian Kostura, Mike Schaefer, Annie Callahan and yours truly spent time in the pool at North Olmsted Rec Center with Leah Nyikes of Liquid Lifestyles honing their mechanics and lengthening their stroke.

Kostura, along with Joe Bush, also doubled down on the weekend with the Race for the Place 5K in Beechwood on Sunday.  Here’s Brian’s report from the east side:

As with last year’s race, there were a TON of people out for this event! I had seveal family members racing this event (some for the first time!) in support of my Mom’s battle with cancer.
It was fun racing with Joe, who reminded me that I need to pick up some speed laces from a place called Second Sole? HAHA!

And Bruce MacDonald ventured down to Columbus for a bike racing twin bill at the Tour of Franklinton:

Went to Columbus to race a couple of crits. Great course through an interesting neighborhood. In the 40+ masters field we had a big group of 40 riders. Pace went out fast, with everyone thinking they had to be in the front of the pack. First crit of year, so i was a little sketched out at the speed in and out of the corners. Moved my way up throughout the race, and got in a decent spot on the last lap. Tried to follow the Spin guys into the front, and came out of the last corner in the top 10, sprinted to 6th, and finished one spot out of the money.

So…2 hour rest, then in to the cat 3/4 crit, bigger field, and fast. Just tried to hang in and stay in the mix. Corners were faster and sketchier then race one, with the young kids out there. Moved my way up with 3 laps, then just avoided a 5 bike pile up. Finished 29th, not far off the front, as just about everyone was together heading to the last corner. Fun day of racing. Great work by Derek Wilford, Tom, Keller, Jeff Kompa, and Matt Brockbrader.

Great job everyone!!
