Ironman World Championship, and Ohio State 10k Championship
Jim Lamastra cashed in on 5 long years of Ironman efforts on Saturday at the Ford Ironman World Championship in Kona, HI. His final time was a personal best 9:44, nearly 20 minutes faster than his previous best time, set at Madison last year. Jim came out of the water in 85th place overall, besting many professionals with his 55:24 time for the 2.4 mile swim. He took to the infamous bike course, riding a steady effort until getting flagged for drafting while riding at 8mph up the large hill before the Hawi turnaround. Figuring he was about to get a mandatory 4 minute rest, Jim charged up the rest of the hill, passing about 50 people before kicking up his feet in the penalty tent with some other cheaters. He final bike speed was 20.7mph, good enough for 5:24. His marathon was equally impressive. Never varying far from his finishing pace of 7:34 per mile, he passed 112 people on the run to finish 189th overall, and 32nd in his age group. Jim was elated with his performance, and will recover with another 8 days in Hawaii before heading home. The entire Spin/Second Sole team offers a huge congratulations to Jim on his landmark performance!
Also last weekend, Aaron Rood continued to hone his form in preparation for the New York City Marathon on November 4th. He ran a scalding 36:20 at the Ohio State 10k Championships, held at the Youngstown Peace Race. Rood’s impressive time was good enough for 4th in his age group– doubly impressive when you consider the stacked field.
