Results Rehash: an upgraded Australian and some running, too

Aussie Rob had raced in one bike race before this year.  Now, just five races in to the 2010 season, he’s upgraded to a Cat 3 by showing aggressiveness and leg-tearing strength.  He did this by placing first in every race until this weekend, when he got in the decisive break in a 1-2-3 field, finishing 6th.  Leah Halloran joined him for this final race of the Covered Bridge Series, taking 9th in the B-race (and was the only girl!).

Anne Callahan lined up for the Lakewood Hospital Ambulance Chase, taking third in her AG.  Scott Zubricky placed third overall at the Huron Lighthouse 10-miler by running a 1:06.

Great week ahead!  Tuesday night crit, Wednesday night rides, and lots of other group workouts too.  Have a great week…  read below for everyone’s race reports.

From Rob, our newly minted Cat 3:

Decided to use my shiny new 4 license to race the 1, 2, 3, 4 race at covered bridge. I figured finishing in the field would be a successful first outing with the big boys for me. Circumstances had other ideas, and i found myself in an early break with Zak Dieringer (Team Spin), Andy Moskal (Panther), and Ray Huang (Carbon). We got as much as 1:40 up before Paul Martin, Brian Badke, Andy Clarke, and one other Carbon guy bridged to us with just over a lap to go. I managed to get on Paul’s wheel and when i looked around i saw six other guys still there; three Carbons, and three Panthers (ruh roh). I wasn’t terribly sure how to play the last lap, i just didn’t want to get dropped, so i burned a few matches trying to maintain position near the front fearing if i was on the wrong wheel near the back i wouldn’t be able to bridge if someone attacked.
Came down to a 7 man sprint, and holy crap those guys ride fast in the last 500m. Got boxed out by the Panther guys and held on for 6th. I doubt i could have really sprinted anyway, even if i had the room. Race paid only 5 deep. Bugger.
Anne:
My brother Mike ran a fast 19min race.  Krol was in bed recovering from his 100 mile ride the day before and my Dad was at the finish.  All went well.  Brother Mike and I ran 5 mi more saw Jen P. in her car headed west and  called it a great morning!  Cheers!
Scotty Z:
My friend Pete asked me to come out and race this, I did it when it was a half marathon. They changed it to a 10 miler this year. I hoped the rain would hold off and it did except for a couple of sprinkles. My goal was to run around 6:30 pace. When the race started 2 guys went out and I knew I wasn’t going to catch them. My race was for third and against the clock. Ran with one guy to mile 1 and he fell off. The rest of the race was by myself, I tried to run even splits, so when I got to mile 5 and my split was 2 minutes slower I was hoping it was long! Mile 6 was right back on pace–  I think they messed up the turn around. Averaged 6:28 pace for my 10.3 mile race. All my splits were between 6:21 and 6:32 except mile 5: 8:23.
