The Green Jewel 50k begins at Scenic Park (near the Marina) in Rocky River. The race meanders (via the all-purpose trail) through the Cleveland Metroparks and ends at Oak Grove in Brecksville. The course is scenic, as expected, and a portion of the proceeds go to the Emerald Necklace Endowment Fund. New this year, the race entry includes a 5:15 a.m. ride to the start line from the finish line.
Not quite as long, but maybe just as brutal, is the Millcreek Classic half marathon on Sunday. The 13.1 mile race has 19 hills. Need I say more?
Also on Sunday is the Lifetime Indoor Triathlon held in Beachwood. The race begins with a 10 minute pool swim followed by a 10 minute transition. From there, jump on a spin bike for 30 mins, transition for 5 and, finally, run on the treadmill for 20 minutes. Conveniently, Lifetime is offering three more indoor triathlons like this so you can test your fitness and easily chart your progress.
