Weekend Wrap-Up

We had a few SSSMST’ers who were not prepping for IM Wisconsin take part in a few local sprint races.

First, Brian Stern went all olympic  and was 5th overall at the Milton Man Triathlon as he gets set for the big Muncie 70.3 race:

Used this as a tune up for Muncie 70.3 coming up this Saturday. Pleased with my effort but not my swim (pick an excuse – Old, Tired, Need to get better at swimming). Had a solid bike and the fastest run split. Not bad for an Old Tired athlete that needs to improve the swim.

And Mike Schaefer and Aaron Henely nearly swept the podium at the NCN Racing Lorain Summer Sprint Triathlon, with Aaron taking a big 1st Place Overall, and Dr Mike taking 3rd!

L to R: (podium girls please!) 2nd Overall Jason Zangmeister, 3rd Overall Mike Schaefer, and Winner Aaron Henely

Schaefer:

Aaron ran an impressive 1st overall, holding off Jason Zangmeister (a fast runner!) on a very long kick. He only had 10 seconds on him at the turn around! Quite a feat considering Aaron’s major spine (fusion) surgery just 4 months ago!! I had to start with the old 40+ dudes in the 2nd wave, so had no one to chase. I did the run totally alone, but still managed 3rd OA, and a PR by almost 2 minutes – which I’m very happy with! The water was a bit rough, but Lakeview Beach was looking good thanks to Lorain County Metroparks and NCN Racing!

Plus there’s a great write up in the Chronicle Telegram:

Excellent job by all!
